Slave Auction

I auctioneered a slave sale. They bought teenagers for $20 to $50 each. Before your mind wonders too far, let me explain.

Owning another human being as a slave is a disgusting concept today. The physical abuses and human rights violations are immoral.

But what if the “owner” is perfect and loving in every way? What if the one who bought you paid an unimaginably high price to buy you out of an abusive slavery? What if being owned by this person was better than any life you could possibly provide for yourself?

Every person is enslaved to a terrible taskmaster called sin. Sin is the core of human nature that is rebellious, evil, and hurtful. Everyone has this “sin nature.” We cannot bring it under complete control on our own.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, paid an unimaginable price to buy you out of that sin-slavery. If you surrender your life to Him as Savior and Lord, your new owner, God, is perfect and loving in every way.

You can continue to live with the illusion that you are your own master while being mastered by sin. Or you can submit to the perfect Master who can provide abundant life here and now and eternal life in His perfect presence in heaven after you die.

The master and owner you choose to serve here and now will determine the master and owner you will serve for an eternity. Everyone serves someone or something. Who do you serve?

If you’ve chosen Jesus as your Lord and Master, then remember this:

“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NLT

Oh yes, the auction?! The donations funded a mission trip to Casper, Wyoming to staff a Bible School for children at a local park. Students going on the trip raked leaves or other simple tasks. One lady paid a premium price to have a talented young lady come to her house and play her piano for an hour!

Our Father, thank-you for buying us out of slavery and placing the freeing Holy Spirit in us when we chose to follow Jesus.
