Where Do You Live?

“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12 NLT

In my preschool years we lived next to the large parking lot of the Glenwood Glove Factory in Glenwood, Arkansas.

One summer we traveled on vacation to Carlsbad, New Mexico to visit my great-grandmother, Grandma Cooper, my mother’s grandmother. We visited and stayed with my mother’s aunt, uncles, and cousins.

But visiting the Carlsbad Caverns excited me most about that vacation. A guide took us down through narrow passage ways and into large rooms. We touched stalagmites growing from the floor caused by dripping mineral water. Sometimes we had to duck a stalactite hanging from the ceiling.

The parks personnel had appropriately provided indirect backlighting throughout the caves.

Our tour group consisted of people from all over the United States. At a rest point where the tour group could stand together, a stranger asked me, “Where do you live?”

I said, “By the glup-pactory.” I knew in that deep, dark cavern in New Mexico exactly where I lived. Didn’t everyone know where the Glove Factory was?!

The guide took us deeper and deeper. At another rest point, he asked everyone to stand still and grab a rail nearby. He turned the lights off! Total darkness engulfed us. The heavy, humid, cool air seemed to press upon me. Absolutely no light peeked through anywhere!

Without light and a guide, we probably would have never found our way out of that cavern. I thought I knew where I lived, but my understanding of the “glup-pactory” would never get me home.

Jesus said He is our Light and Guide. Without Jesus, you and I will be in total spiritual darkness without hope and no way home.

Will you please turn your life and heart over to Jesus as the Lord of your life and follow Him?

“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12 NLT

Our Father, thank-you for sending Your perfect flashlight into a world of spiritual darkness. Yes, I choose to follow Jesus, the Light of the world!
