The Word

The bush appeared to be on fire. Then God spoke his word to Moses through the fiery bush. The Lord’s word commanded Moses to lead His people out of 450 years of slavery to the Egyptians. (Exodus 3)

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 ESV

God’s “Word” spoke the universe into being. The prophets declared God’s “Word.” God spoke His “Word” to Moses at the burning bush. The “Word” became flesh and dwelt among us! The ultimate expression of God’s Word is Jesus!

Followers of Jesus, theologians, and Bible students past and present have explored the depths of this one verse in John 1:14 and discovered the well is infinitely deep.

A pin-prick of light that helps us understand John 1:14 is the story in Exodus 3 of Moses receiving God’s “Word” to go back to Egypt to free His people from slavery.

God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14 ESV

The great “I AM” who spoke the “Word” to Moses, became a human being and dwelled here on earth among us! His name is Jesus. Merry Christmas!

The eternal “I AM” who has always been, who is, and who will always be – He has put on flesh as a tiny baby to live among us! His name is Jesus. Merry Christmas!

The glorious “I AM” who revealed His blazing glory through Jesus on the mountain to Peter, James, and John when Jesus was transfigured before them, like a burning bush. The Glory of God came and lived among us! His name is Jesus. Merry Christmas!

The forgiving “I AM” came to free you and me from an eternal slavery to sin and hell. He has come, died for us on a cruel cross, absorbed the wrath of God we deserve, rose from the dead, and He is Lord! His name is Jesus. Merry Christmas!

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 ESV

Our Father, we celebrate the birth of our Savior, your Son, the Word become flesh. Thank-you for Christmas!
