Snapfish or Shutterfly?

Remember when a proud Dad handed out real cigars when a child was born? I handed out bubble gum cigars when our son was born. A friend had his son’s name printed on Titleist Pro V1’s and gave them away.

This birth announcement was not the usual Snapfish or Shutterfly computer-generated cutesy photo. Oh no, that would not do!

First, an angel of the Lord appeared to shepherds in the middle of the night. That would have been enough! But there’s more! The glory of the Lord shone around them! The dark night suddenly became brighter than day.

Second, the angel actually spoke! It wasn’t a birthday card with a chip in it playing some silly song. The messenger from God said he was bringing good news of a great joy, for a Savior was born, who is Christ the Lord.

Third, the angel is joined by thousands of angels filling the sky with a brilliant, blinding light. In a thunderous, one-accord voice they said,

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!

Luke 2:14 ESV

No birth announcement devised by man could top that! Why? The greatest birth in history just took place. The Son of God came into the world!

But this birth announcement came with a promise of peace. A universal cry in the heart of every human is peace.

According to the angels’ announcement, this peace comes to “those with whom God is pleased.” So is God pleased with you?

You may ask, “How can He be pleased with me since I’ve done so many things wrong and He is a holy God?” Great question!

Jesus did not come to invite us to a new religion! Religion alone exhausts the body and exasperates the soul. No, He didn’t come to bring us a religion, but a relationship!

Jesus does not invite us to a new set of rules or a burdensome to-do list. He invites us to Himself, a person, that is, a real, walking-talking relationship with Himself.

When you chose to follow Jesus as Lord and Savior, a relationship begins that is so intimate, that His Spirit comes to literally live in you.

So how can God be pleased with you and thus have real peace? Because when God sees you, He sees His Son living in you. Peace comes when you choose to deny yourself and follow Jesus!

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!

Luke 2:14 ESV

Our Father, may the person reading this find Your peace in a relationship with Jesus so that this Christmas will be Merry.

Merry Christmas!
