The scientific method requires something to be observable and repeatable. Since the theory of evolution had to have happened millions of years ago and no fossil record shows one species becoming another species, like creation, it must be accepted by faith.
Faith is the foundation for both creation and evolution. To believe this universe came into being incrementally over millions of years without God requires a great confidence in something that cannot be observable or repeatable.
To believe that an almighty God created this universe at the command of his voice, also requires a great step of faith. Either method of explaining our existence has great implications for how we live.
For example, is “right and wrong” given by a creator God and cannot be changed? Or is it something we figured out on our own and therefore we can change as we choose?
How you answer that question determines on what basis you condemn Hitler for torturing and murdering millions of people and on what basis you condone the practice of ending millions of lives before they are born by abortion.
Another example: Are we accountable for how we live this life? Faith in evolution implies we stop existing at death and no accountability results for how we lived. Faith in creation implies we continue to exist and will be accountable to the Creator.
Also, the “faith system” you and I choose determines our behavior. Three behaviors will emerge:
- First, the message of that system will fill your thoughts and behaviors.
- Second, you will teach and counsel that message to others.
- And third, you will magnify that message with emotion and great worth.
Since I am a minister of the gospel of Jesus Christ, you know what my “faith system” is. But check out this verse in the Bible. It includes these same three behaviors. We call them “worship.”
Colossians 3:16 NLT
- “Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.”
- “Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives.”
- “Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.”
Which “faith system” do you worship?
Our Father, let the amazing story of Jesus Christ, in all its richness, fill our lives. Our Father, you deserve all our worship and adoration. We praise the name of Jesus!
