Tomorrow Morning

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”

John 15:13 ESV

The director of the Louisiana State Police paraphrased the words of Jesus in a press conference after the shooting of policemen in Baton Rouge. A man murdered three law enforcement officers sworn to protect and serve citizens.

I grieve. I grieve for these wives and children. I grieve for our nation losing its mooring.

When a people’s worldview becomes godless; when the family breaks down with an absentee father and no respect for authority; and when moral absolutes are replaced with opinions, then the result is predictable.

A society eventually spirals out-of-control into chaos, the government steps in to control the people’s harmful behavior, and their freedoms are forfeited to an authoritarian leadership.

“Rome did not fall because of external forces such as the invasion by the barbarians. Rome had no sufficient inward base, the barbarians only completed the breakdown – and Rome gradually became a ruin.” Francis Shaeffer

Our democratic-republic system of government is dependent upon an “inward base,” a biblical worldview of moral absolutes established by a personal-infinite God. This view is being tossed aside evidenced by the unholy disregard for human life in abortion and the neglect of godly sexual morality by redefining and ignoring biblical marriage.

At the core of every human is a sin-nature. We each need a Savior. Jesus Christ is the Savior. He is the totally innocent man who laid down his life for his friends. “You are my friends if you do what I have commanded you.” John 15:14 ESV

Doing what Christ commanded begins with faith. It is understanding there is nothing you or I can DO to save ourselves. We are completely helpless to save ourselves. Salvation is only by faith in what Jesus has DONE on the cross when he laid down his life for us.

We will live on this earth only a few more days or years. We will live in our eternal destination forever. Without Jesus Christ you are spiritually dead, not sort of dead, really dead. Your eternal reality will be an ongoing death of separation from all that is good in a place called hell. With Jesus Christ you are made alive spiritually now and forever alive in a place called heaven!

When you wake up tomorrow morning, which destination do you live for?

“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I have commanded you.” John 15:13-14 ESV

Our Father, thank-you for providing the way of salvation in your Son Jesus Christ. Comfort those who grieve and wake us up to Your great love, power, and grace.
