Purple Paint

I’ve seen a lot of “No Trespassing” signs, but it’s my first time for the “DON’T ASK” part!

The sign is attached to a gate on the Owensville Cut-Off. I really like that sign. It’s clear. It gets right to the point. There are no other options.

Usually parked right across road is the car of a State Trooper. The presence of the distinctive blue strip seems to add even more authority to the sign.

Out of a lack of respect for other’s property, these signs sometimes become target practice for a hunter. The signs are expensive and easily torn down.

So the state of Arkansas has the “purple paint” law. When a land owner paints fence posts and trees bordering his property with this weird purple color, it is a legal posting of the property and means “No Trespassing.”

“Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden to work it and keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, ‘You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.'” Genesis 2:15-17 ESV

God’s instruction was clear. It gets right to the point. There are no other options.

Adam and Eve did eat the forbidden fruit. This rebellious streak has infected every human being since then, except the God-man, Jesus. Therefore, we are all rebellious toward our Creator. We live a little while physically, but we are all dead spiritually for trespassing against a Holy God.

“Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin” (Hebrews 9:22b ESV). So Jesus, the perfect God-man, became our blood sacrifice dying on the cross paying the full penalty for our rebellion called sin.

So, no surprise, sinners act like sinners. We all have trespassed, climbed the fence , crossed the purple line, and gone fishing and hunting where we ought not.

Caught trespassing red-handed , we are given a window of opportunity to accept God’s forgiveness. That window of opportunity is now, this life we live on earth. Jesus paid the price of our fine. If we will trust what God did in His Son Jesus, He forgives us.

The moment we put our trust in Christ our guilt is removed once for all and completely.

Father, thank-you for paying our fine for trespassing. Please bring more people to trust your Son Jesus before their window of opportunity ends. Amen
