Terminal Velocity

Imagine falling from 10,000 feet above the earth. Quickly you reach “terminal velocity” which is the maximum speed of a falling object or about 120 miles per hour. In about 60 seconds you will hit the ground. The ground rushes toward you in amazing clarity.

Then you notice the parachute. Someone else collected the materials, assembled it, paid for it, packed it properly, carried it to the plane from which you fell, and strapped it on you. He even went to the trouble to put an orange arrow across your chest pointing to the “D-ring” just above your heart with the words “Pull This.”

Your hand has been placed into the “D-ring” and taped securely to it. All you have to do to avoid a fatal impact with earth is to pull it. This simple act of trust will open the parachute.

You were pushed out of the plane at birth. Just as you did not decide to be born, neither can you decide not to die.

God’s grace is the total package of all He has done to provide eternal life. He has done it all. He sent His Son Jesus Christ to earth to die as our substitute on the cross. His death has paid the penalty of our sin. God raised Christ from the dead. Christ is now seated in heaven as Lord of Lords. God has done it all except pull the “D-ring.”

Faith is your willingness to submit to this plan before the end of your life. It is your responsibility to respond in an act of faith.

Some say, “I’ll do it my way.” Or “I’ll wait until I get there to deal with it.” But it will be too late then.

So whether you have 60 seconds, 60 days, or 60 months to live, you must place your faith in God’s grace, the totally completed and freely provided grace found in Jesus Christ alone.

Please don’t choose to hit the ground with a perfect parachute strapped to you! Pull the “D-ring” of faith!

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

How? Tell God what you want. He is listening. Like this … “Father in heaven, I believe in your Son Jesus Christ who died for my sin and rose from the dead. Forgive all my sin forever. Come into my life by your Spirit and be my Lord and Savior.”
