It’s Just a Symbol

One of the most admired men of our generation, Billy Graham, said, “God doesn’t want you to be separated from Him forever. He loves you and He wants you to spend eternity with Him in Heaven.”

Heaven is a reality and we can be with God forever. There is also a place where a person can exist that is not heaven, a dreadful reality called hell.

Jesus said three times as much about hell as he said about heaven. If heaven is real then certainly hell is real too. To reject the teaching of Jesus Christ on a real heaven and a real hell, then one must also reject Jesus Christ himself.

God certainly desires that no one spend eternity separated from Him. God wants to provide you forgiveness of sin and salvation through His Son “so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:7

Heaven is experiencing forever and ever the unfathomable wealth of God’s kindness and grace. Hell is experiencing the unrelenting wrath of God on your sin and rejection of His Son.

Your decision to accept or reject Jesus as Lord and Savior is eternally urgent! Life is not a dress-rehearsal. Life is not a game we put back in the box and start over whenever we choose. Life is not based on the lie of reincarnation that suggests we get a second chance, a third chance, a fourth chance, and on and on until somehow we get it right.

You have one life to live. What you decide to do with Christ determines where you will spend eternity. Our sin means we will never get it right therefore we need a perfect Savior.

Some say, “But hell is only a symbol.” But a symbol represents something far greater than itself. The flag of the United States of America is made of cloth with stars and stripes, but that piece of cloth symbolizes something far greater than itself. Millions of people bound together under the Constitution certainly is greater than the piece of cloth it represents.

If hell is only a symbol, then it is far worse than the dark place of unquenchable fire as  Jesus Christ describes it. It is greater than the agony of grinding teeth and horror of continual maggots the Bible describes. It exceeds the description of eternal regret and not a drop of water to quench an unbearable thirst.

Jesus came to provide a way of escape from hell and give you a life here and now reborn, recreated, and abundant. “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9 NLT

…”so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.”
