“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult (confined) is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14, NKJV)
A few days ago, I was traveling from Benton to Hot Springs. After I exited I-30 to US 70, I entered the long expanse of road construction that would turn the present three lane highway into a wider and smoother one. Most of my journey was along a two way narrow remnant of a lane. The road was rough, but adequate and I arrived at my destination without any delay.
The reduced speed afforded me the opportunity to consider all the preparation that the land and the roadway were undergoing so that motorists would have a smoother and safer ride. Land was graded over, gravel was hauled in and asphalt was being laid down and sealed. The improved road surface was going to be worth the wait!
Life is like traveling a highway, sometimes there are bumps, detours and confused exits. If we are not careful, we can choose the wrong path and end up at a destination we never intended to arrive at. That is what Jesus is talking about. Choosing the right entrance to the right destination. Not just going anywhere, but going somewhere intentional, safe and fulfilling. He offers the way to peace, joy, contentment and love for others. The destination is a loving God who wants us to know Him and live with Him forever.
Jesus will travel with us if we ask Him to. He has already been there and knows the way! Are you ready to go?
